Styrene-acrylic emulsions are produced through emulsion copolymerization of butadiene and acrylic resin monomers. As a key intermediate chemical material, they offer numerous advantages and are widely used in industrial coatings, metal surfaces, and latex architectural paints. However, when applied to metal surfaces, they exhibit a significant drawback: poor flash rust prevention properties, often requiring high additions of rust-inhibiting modifiers. This is precisely why metal anti-corrosion coatings should prioritize the use of specialized rust-inhibiting emulsions.


Metal anti-corrosion coatings effectively prevent atmospheric moisture, oxygen, and other contaminants from contacting copper elements. Water-based anti-corrosion emulsions can coexist with other modifiers in anti-corrosion coatings, enhancing the corrosion resistance of metal materials. If a standard styrene-acrylic emulsion is added to a water-based anti-corrosion coating, the dosage must be approximately 10% higher than that of an anti-corrosion emulsion to achieve equivalent rust prevention performance. However, the primary limitation of acrylic emulsions lies in their inferior flash rust prevention. When incorporating anti-flash rust modifiers, the corrosion-inhibiting emulsion requires only about 0.7% addition, whereas standard acrylic emulsions demand approximately 1.2% to effectively suppress flash rust formation.
