In landscape design, metal materials are widely utilized for their distinctive texture and exceptional malleability. Aging techniques impart a unique sense of history and artistic ambiance to metal landscapes, with the combined use of rust agents and rust fixatives proving highly effective.

Rust agents are pivotal in achieving the desired aged metal effect. When applied to a metal surface, they initiate an oxidation reaction. For instance, on common steel materials, the chemical components in the rust agent accelerate the binding of iron atoms with atmospheric oxygen, rapidly forming rust. This process mimics the prolonged oxidation and corrosion effects observed in natural environments. Different rust agent formulations yield varied rust hues, ranging from light orange initial rust to deep red or brownish-black advanced corrosion. This provides landscape designers with a rich palette to meet diverse stylistic demands.

However, using rusting agents alone may result in unstable rust layers prone to flaking or excessive corrosion. This is where rust fixatives become essential. Rust fixatives penetrate the rust layer, chemically reacting with the rust to form a relatively stable compound. They prevent further oxidation of the rust layer, providing protection without altering its color. Additionally, they enhance the adhesion between the rust layer and the metal substrate, ensuring the rust layer remains firmly bonded to the surface.

In practical landscape design operations, the metal surface must first undergo pretreatment. This involves cleaning the surface of contaminants like oil and dust to ensure the rusting agent can act uniformly. Next, apply the rusting agent according to specified ratios and methods, allowing the rust layer to develop to the desired color and thickness. Finally, apply the rust fixative to ensure the longevity of the entire aged effect.

The combination of rusting agents and rust fixatives plays an irreplaceable role in aging metal surfaces for landscape design. They not only meet designers' aesthetic requirements for metal finishes but also guarantee the long-term stability of these effects, adding unique artistic value to landscapes.
