When communicating with clients, we often find some customers ask which is superior—rust converter or rust stabilisers. This likely stems from their perception that these products are similar, as both exhibit comparable reaction characteristics. Currently, numerous rust removal solutions exist on the market, including rust removers, rust converters, and rust stabilisers. So how does one distinguish between rust converters and rust stabilisers?

 

Rust converters are applied to rusted metal components, reacting directly with surface rust and scale to transform the rust into a protective coating. This protective film isolates external contaminants from the metal substrate, preventing further corrosion. Simultaneously, the converted coating serves as an anti-corrosive primer, allowing direct application of topcoats with excellent adhesion. Rust converters thus serve a dual purpose: protecting the iron surface against secondary rusting while enhancing the adhesion of topcoats.

 

Rust Stabilisers, similarly applied to rusted steel plates, aim to stabilise the rust colour and prevent flaking. They chemically react with the rust surface to form a transparent protective film. This film acts as a barrier against air, shielding the steel from further weathering and erosion. Rust Stabilisers are specifically developed for outdoor applications on corroded steel plates. Following outdoor exposure testing, they exhibit a natural colouration and resist cracking or flaking under prolonged outdoor exposure and rainfall.

 

Therefore, it is essential to select the appropriate rust removal method and product based on specific requirements.
