Rust Conversion Agent Application Method

Substrate Preparation
Thoroughly remove loose soil, flaking surface layers, or rust scales. No oil residues should remain.

Retain extremely well-adhered coatings or oxide layers, ensuring edges show no peeling or “cracking” that could cause future issues.

Lightly sand or buff the surface once with sandpaper or a grinder to activate rust and enhance conversion efficiency.

If site conditions permit, use high-pressure air or tap water to rinse the metal surface, removing dust and loose rust particles to optimize rust converter performance.

Application Method
Carefully read the instruction manual before using the rust converter. Thoroughly stir the contents after opening the container to ensure uniform emulsification and complete mixing of additives, maximizing conversion effectiveness.

Rust converters from various manufacturers are precisely formulated; adding additional additives or water is strictly prohibited.

Apply under conditions with humidity <90% and ambient temperature >5°C.

When applying with a roller or brush, ensure personal safety protection, including safety goggles, rubber gloves, and other necessary protective gear to prevent harm from the acid-based rust converter.

Dip the brush fully without dripping. Apply with firm pressure, brushing back and forth over the steel surface at least twice to ensure even coverage without buildup or sagging.

For inaccessible gaps in steel structures, adopt spray application. A garden sprayer suffices to convert rust on internal surfaces within crevices.

Should rain occur during application, immediately halt rust converter work. Resume full coating or spraying after weather clears. Reapplication will not compromise conversion effectiveness.

Effect Evaluation
Typically, color changes begin within 15 minutes after applying the rust converter to the rust layer. The surface should transition from rust-colored to black, appearing dense and translucent. Achieving this effect indicates successful conversion; otherwise, the conversion is considered unsatisfactory with low conversion rate. For suboptimal or low-conversion rust layers, reapply the rust converter by brushing or spraying immediately after surface drying until a satisfactory conversion layer is achieved.
